I am a born and bred Cantabrian. I enjoy living in this beautiful city, Otautahi. Even though I have left to travel at different times, I always enjoy coming home to my place of belonging. I started my working life training as a hairdresser and when living in the UK I ventured into nurse aiding and nannying. When my youngest child started school I retrained as a counsellor and joined Arahura in February 2010. I am married and the mother of six children. Four of my children I sadly lost through miscarriage. I enjoy walking, reading, exploring new places, good coffee and spending time with my family and friends.
I enjoy working with adults, adolescents and children. I work from a person-centred approach, where I offer a safe and non-judgmental space for people to explore the natural ups and downs that life brings. I enjoy working alongside both men and women to promote personal growth, self-awareness and healing. I work with a range of issues including, anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, trauma, grief and loss with a particular interest in loss relating to miscarriage.
When working with children I work from a play therapy approach. In play therapy I provide toys for children to use; to say with toys what they have difficulty saying with words. Often children do not have the words to express what is troubling them. They use play as a means to express themselves. In play therapy toys are like their words and play is their language.
