I recently graduated from the three-year clinical Masters in Arts Therapy through Whitecliffe College in NZ. I am on the two year intern programme at Arahura. My approach is respectful, non-judgemental, supportive, and collaborative; gentle yet dynamic. I work with young adults and adults.
I trained and worked as a social worker in the UK before moving to Christchurch in 1997. I have worked in a broad range of hospital and community organisations, with individuals and running therapeutic groups. I have extensive experience in working with grief, shame, despair, and feelings of overwhelm, and loss of purpose. I have a particular interest in burnout and carer stress.
Arts therapy is suitable for all people – no skill or interest in arts is required. Although Expressive Arts Therapy is comparatively new to NZ it is more established oversees and is recognised as a particularly useful modality for trauma recovery. Every therapy session looks and feels different, it’s tailored to whatever is needed and helpful at the time. Sometimes a session can resemble talk therapy, other times more expressive arts are used. I use a range of materials including sandtray, writing, drawing, painting, and mindful and somatic-based activities.
Away from work I enjoy dog walking, yoga, gardening, and restoring my character home. I have two adult daughters born in NZ. I feel a deep sense of belonging and a gratitude towards Christchurch, my adopted home.
I can assist with applications for financial assistance if you are eligible. I offer weekly, daytime appointments. Most often a therapy sequence progresses over a few weeks or months; the timeline largely dependent on the depth and breadth of the life enhancing work you chose to engage in.
